This walking trail covers the highest and oldest area on São Miguel Island, one of the zones with the most endemic vegetation and one of the most important areas in terms of water resources.
It is a special walk because it is done in one of the two Natural Reserves of São Miguel - Lagoa do Fogo and Pico da Vara.
Starting at Planalto dos Graminhais we pass by the wind towers, and it is here that you can see the conservation projects to protect the endemic vegetation. We continue our route through Pico da Vara in the area of the volcanic complex of Nordeste and enjoying the beautiful views of the Caldeira da Povoação.
Arriving at 1103 metres altitude, at Pico da Vara, we will have time to take a break, rest and enjoy the magnificent view over the island of São Miguel.
After the trail we will finish our day in the beautiful park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões and return to Ponta Delgada.
